GOP's Man Crush

Two GOP rising stars with cross-over appeal -- definition: they can appeal to folks outside of the crazy wing -- have fallen.

Former VA Gov. Bob McDonnell & wife got busted with their hands in the cookie jar of a rich sugar daddy (he was seeking special favors for his business).

And, NJ Gov. Chris Christie...well, let's say he is like a bridge over troubled waters.

What's a party to do? Turn to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin?

Birther issue aside, many of our right-wing friends appear to have a Reaganesque man-crush on Putin. Republicans from Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Fox News' Eric Bolling and company have been praising Putin for being a strong and decisive leader -- unlike Obama from their POV.

Romney:

Mitt Romney still isn't a big fan of President Obama's foreign policy, and is now saying Obama has been schooled by Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

"I think Putin has outperformed our president time and time again on the world stage," Romney told NBC News. source

Bolling:

The Five opened its Friday show by taking a look at President Obama’s “mishandling” of the Syria situation, and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attempts to take the diplomatic lead. Looking at a pair of conspicuously chosen photos of the two men side by side, Eric Bolling asked,

“Which one do you want leading your country?”

Bolling compared a “real leader” like President Ronald Reagan to Obama, who “put us in a ‘wussification,’ redistribution economy” before throwing the photos up on the screen:  source

Ok, we know politics makes for some strange bedfellows but this is quite a stretch, even for Obama hating Republicans. Here's their convoluted logic. They hate Obama because they claim:

• He is autocratic
• He has a socialist and Marxist agenda
• He is anti-American values
• He ignores the constitution
• He is anti-capitalism

So, who do they embrace? Putin? They embrace Mr. KGB who has hijacked and despotically ruled Russia for over a decade. Putin, a man who did not hesitate to jail a billionaire businessman critic or a female punk band that publicly bashed him.

What Bill of Rights?

I guess in the Obama era, any great white hope will do -- even if he is the Real McCoy when it comes to being an anti-American, socialist, constitutionally challenged and authoritarian leader: just so he ain't Obama.

As Rachel Maddow noted:

“Seriously, I know you guys hate President Obama, so it feels good to have a man crush on somebody else,” Maddow concluded, “but this guy is a president of Russia. Zip it up, you guys, seriously. Have some respect.”
