The treatment of the Obama presidency by the Conservative movement from 2009 to present demonstrates how reflexively racist our country remains.
Yet again, since the formation of our country, conservatives (today's Republicans and yesterday's Southern Democrats, aka, Dixiecrats) find themselves on the wrong side of history.
They got/get it wrong on slavery, Civil War, anti-lynching legislation, women's rights, Native American genocide, labor union rights, children labor laws, Social Security, Jim Crow segregation, Universal Health Care, Voters Right Act, Stand your ground laws, common sense gun control, Job Act legislation, Immigration and the list goes on and on.
The vigorous, grueling, negative, truth deprived assaults against all-things-Obama by the thought shapers on the right -- the Conservative Entertainment Complex -- reveal the palpable fear (to the core) they have of the man and his policies.
Let's face reality: Right wing politics is rooted in White male domination.
Of course, they have black, brown and female surrogates opportunistically fighting for the their cause -- Clarence Thomas, Sarah Palin, Marco Rubio, Herman Cain, Ted Cruz, Michele Bachmann come to mind.
Conservatives, patriot flags wavers they pretend to be, do not love and embrace America -- diverse as we are. They love the mythical Norman Rockwell America. They romanticize about a sanitized and Hollywood created America that never existed.
The mere presence of a President Obama is very threatening.
On the converse, the composure, dignity, resilience and elegance of President Obama -- in the belly of the beast -- is truly astounding. President Obama embraces and attracts Americans of all shapes, hues and class. His agenda benefits both the haves and the have nots.
Those that beg the difference: How do you explain a record breaking 1700 Dow Jones co-existing with Obamacare?

Harvey, I got to say that part of me doesn't want to even justify this ridiculous article with a reply but I just can't help myself. Who do you think you are to assume that you know what each and every conservative thinks and feels? That is almost as ludicrous as assuming all African-Americans like fried chicken and watermelon. What about those folks that voted for Obama and now, after seeing the results of his presidency, have vehemently turned against him?
ReplyDeleteTell me this. What could Obama do that could change your mind about him? Name one or two things. If you cannot come up with a couple answers to this then you don't care about this country, you just care that there is a black man at the helm. Most Caucasians, believe it or not, don't give a second thought to his color, we just want a president that is working for this country.

Thank you for you opinion and comment, I find it strange -- and a bit contradictory -- you accuse me of assuming what every conservative thinks (something I do not pretend to know) and then you state:

By that statement, I infer you know what almost all Caucasians believe?
Second, my post is directed to the Tea Party/conservative movement, the Conservative Entertainment Complex (Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, William Crystal, Dick Cheney, Herman Cain, Allen West, Michele Bachman, Sarah Palin, Ted Nugent etc) and Fox News, aka GOP propaganda machine.
I challenge you to just Google, for instance Rush Limbaugh on Obama or Palin on Obama or Ted Nugent on Obama or Sarah Bachman on Obama; and then read not just disagreement with his politics (this is fair game) but read Hateful diatribes with strong racial overtones.
Third, the color of his skin does make me feel a bit proud, but my vote was based on my agreement with his policies (you and others are free to agree -- this is America) And, for example, I would never vote for Al Sharpton (remember he once ran), Jesse Jackson, Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas, or Alan Keyes -- no matter what color these gentlemen may be.

Finally, as a American, I find it so typical (not typical of whites or conservatives) that you underhandedly suggest I don't care about my country because I support Obama and think his policies have helped our country recover from the catastrophic failures of Bush/Cheney or Cheney/Bush.
Back down memory lane.
On their watch: 9/11, Katrina relief disaster, two ill prepared and poorly executed wars, Halliburton war profiting, destabilization of the Middle-East (once Bush broke Iraq the winner was Iran), Biggest economic meltdown since the Great Depression, Wall Street collapse, American auto industry near bankrupt and the list goes on and on.
Oh, lest I forget, I got a chuckle by you fried chicken and watermelon quote. Let me state for the record: I am a proud consumer of both. As many Italians love past, Asians love rice, many Mexicans love tacos etc I say bon appetite!
